J Stainer: The CrucifixionFree
Sir John Stainer (1840-1901) was one of the most distinctive musical personalities in the Victorian era. His large choral work for the Passion tide, “The Crucifixion”, tells the story of the Passion of Christ – from Golgotha to Gethsemane, in an emotionally powerful yet accessible tonal language.
Since its première in 1887, “The Crucifixion” belongs to the British standard repertoire.
