W A Mozart: Requiem90SEK – 275SEK
Few musical pieces have given rise to as many legends and myths as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem. With little or no base, in reality, some stories have caught the imagination of many, not least the one about Mozart’s envious rival Salieri and his supposed role in Mozart’s death, a story made famous by the Hollywood film Amadeus.
The facts are that Mozart was commissioned to compose the Requiem by excentric Count von Walsegg in memory of his deceased spouse. An avid amateur musician, von Walsegg was known to have commissioned pieces from famous composers, only to present the music as composed by himself. Mozart died while still in the process of writing his Requiem, and it was subsequently completed by his student Franz Xaver Süssmayr. It is Süssmayr’s version we will hear at this concert.
