An British Christmas on film is not possible to imagine without scenes showing carollers singing for busy Christmas shoppers. The ancient tradition of groups of young singers walking the neighbourhood and singing Christmas songs for money also existed in Scandinavia. A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols has become an indispensable part of the Christmas celebrations in the English-speaking world. In many a British home, Christmas officially starts with listening to the BBC radio broadcast of the Carol service from King’s College Chapel in Cambridge. Texts from the Old and New Testaments are set to choral music, with highlights in the form of beloved carols where the congregation is invited to sing along. Come join us in singing the magnificient O come, o ye faithful with the choir, the full organ and the beautiful descants soaring to the winter sky!
