B Britten: Saint Nicolas90kr – 275kr
Who is Santa Claus? Where did he come from? Some of you are undoubtedly familiar with the fascinating story about Nicolas, Bishop of Myra, who became the patron saint of children and seamen.
Benjamin Britten’s cantata Saint Nicolas tells the colourful story according to the old legends, as in a traditional medieval mystery play. Among the more exotic tales that come to life in this cantata is the story of how Nicolas saves the three pickled boys!
To give life to this all this, Britten makes use of a soloist, an orchestra with organ, a mixed choir as well as a children’s choir with some of the children singing specific roles. And the congregation is invited to sing along in a couple of beautiful hymns!
Like many medieval churches in seafaring countries the Stockholm Cathedral was originally dedicated to St Nicolaus. Come and celebrate him with us!
