Improvisation!

The collaboration between organist and pianist Mattias Wager and percussionist Anders Åstrand began in 1994 at the School of Music in Piteå, where they were both teaching. One day they locked themselves in the organ hall and started playing – and after an hour they knew: “We have to do this more often.” Since then, their interplay has evolved into a musical laboratory where improvisation, attentiveness, and playfulness are at the center.
Together with Maria Johansson-Josephsson, Johanna Levin, and students from the School of Music in Örebro, they invite the audience to a festive final concert after a week devoted to improvisation. Here, the audience can experience music created in the moment – where the boundaries between genres, traditions, and expressions dissolve and anything can happen.
