SUMMARY:What is life?
DESCRIPTION:What is life? That question is explored in this multifaceted programme\, in which each work offers its own unique interpretation. Ann-Sofi Söderberg’s What is life? opens a space for reflection on the meaning of existence. Sven-Eric Johanson’s Snabbt jagar stormen våra år captures the fleeting passage of time and change. Ingvar Lidholm’s De profundis delves deeply into the human struggle for understanding\, while Gösta Nystroem’s Säg mig du seeks connection and empathy. Max Reger’s intense Der Mensch lebt und bestehtexpresses the complexity of human life\, and Paul Mealor’s Ubi caritas et amor celebrates love as life’s foundation. Caroline Shaw’s poetic and the swallow evokes hope and renewal\, while Alvin Vikman’s Lost hopeportrays life’s darker moments. Together\, these works form a profound musical meditation on the nature of life. \nStorkyrkans Kammarkör\nHelene Stureborg conductor \nProgramme\nAnn-Sofi Söderberg What is life?\nSven-Eric Johanson Snabbt jagar stormen våra år\nIngvar Lidholm De profundis\nGösta Nystroem Säg mig du\nMax Reger Der Mensch lebt und besteht\nPaul Mealor Ubi caritas et amor\nCaroline Shaw and the swallow\nAlvin Vikman Lost hope \n\n\n  \nAge limit: 6 years and older\n\nTicket prices: 170 SEK\, discounts available for seniors\, children/youth/students \n\n\nPlease note that large bags\, backpacks\, suitcases\, and strollers are not allowed in the church! \n\n\nBUY YOUR TICKETS HERE!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get there?\n\n\n\n\n\nStorkyrkan – Stockholm Cathedral is situated in Old Town just beside the Royal Castle. SUMMARY:From God to Human
DESCRIPTION:The title of the concert alludes to a recurring theme in several of the works: humanity receiving something from God – through prayer\, worship\, or reflection. That “something” can take many forms: the wind and the Holy Spirit in Vuojnha Biegga\, trust in Hear my Prayer\, O Lord\, peace in Komm\, Jesu\, komm\, the eternal light in Canticum calamitatis maritimae\, or the sacred and the earthly announced by church bells in En Ego Campana. \nEven the meaning – or the absence of it – in Hymn of Acxiom can be interpreted in light of what God gives to humankind. The dual meaning is also present in the Son of Man\, the theme of Komm\, Jesu\, komm\, opening the way for an alternative reading of the concert’s title. \n  \nS:t Jacobs Vokalensemble\nMikael Wedar conductor \nProgramme\nJan Sandström Vuojnha Biegga\nHenry Purcell/Sven-David Sandström Hear my prayer\nSven-David Sandström Komm\, Jesu\, komm\nJaakko Mäntyjärvi Canticum calamitatis maritimae\nVienna Teng arr. SUMMARY:The Apology
DESCRIPTION:The Apology – Sii bivde ándagassii is a staged work created in response to the High Mass at which Archbishop Antje Jackelén apologized for the Church of Sweden’s role in the colonisation of the Sámi people. After seeing the televised service\, Åsa Simma\, director of the Giron Sámi Teáhter\, was inspired to create a total work of art where history\, collective pain\, and hope meet within the ritual space of the theatre. \nThe performance highlights the Sámi people’s loss of land\, language\, and culture\, as well as the need for redress and deeper dialogue. To the powerful organ compositions of Hans-Ola Ericsson\, percussion\, quiet joik\, storytelling\, newly written dialogues\, and visually striking stage imagery\, words\, music\, movement\, and the artistry of Britta Marakatt-Labba are woven together into one whole. The Apology invites the audience into a shared process of reflection\, memory\, and reconciliation – with each performance leaving its imprint on both the individual and the community. \nThe Apology premiered in Uppsala Cathedral in the autumn of 2025 and will subsequently tour cathedrals across Sweden. The production is a collaboration with Estrad Norr. \nMarja Utsi\, Cecilia Persson & Åsa Simma actors\nÅsa Simma and Kjell Peder Johanson script\nKjell Peder Johanson och Indra Lorentzen direction\nIndra Lorentzen choreography\nHans-Ola Ericsson composer\, organist\nTommy Björk percussion\nBritta Marakatt-Labba visual art\nSara Svonni costume\nAgneta Enzell set design\nCaisa Jackson makeup design\nEmanuel Arvanitis lighting design \n  \nAge limit: 6 years and older \nFree admission \nPlease note that large bags\, backpacks\, suitcases\, and strollers are not allowed in the church! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get there?\n\n\n\nStorkyrkan – Stockholm Cathedral is situated in Old Town just beside the Royal Castle. SUMMARY:J.S. Bach St John Passion
DESCRIPTION:S:t Jacobs Kammarkör\nKarl-Magnus Fredriksson Christ\nLars Johansson Brissman Pilate\nCarl Unander-Scharin Evangelist\nIda Zackrisson Soprano\nAnna Zander Alto\nOrfeus barock Stockholm\nElin Gabrielsson Concertmaster\nGary Graden Conductor \nProgram\nJohann Sebastian Bach St John Passion BWV 245 \nWelcome to a powerful musical experience as S:t Jacob’s Chamber Choir performs one of the most significant works in Western music history – Johann Sebastian Bach’s St John Passion. \nThe St John Passion was first performed on Good Friday\, 7 April 1724\, in Leipzig. It was the first Passion Bach composed after assuming his post as Cantor at St Thomas Church\, marking a new chapter in his career. The work is based on the evangelist John’s account of the suffering and death of Christ and stands out for its dramatic intensity and emotional immediacy. \nMusically\, the work alternates between dramatic choruses\, heartfelt arias\, and recitatives that narrate the Passion story. Hear the mournfully beautiful alto aria Es ist vollbracht (“It is finished”)\, the tender prayer of Ich folge dir gleichfalls (“I follow thee with joyful steps”)\, and the deeply moving Zerfließe\, mein Herze (“Dissolve\, my heart\, in floods of tears”). The St John Passion is a musical journey that moves from darkness to light\, from suffering to hope. Bach’s unique ability to convey the emotional and theological depth of the text through music finds full expression here – from the fury of the crowd’s cries to the profound stillness of the closing movements. \nIt promises a deeply moving concert experience that will linger long after the final note has faded. \n  \nAge limit: 6 years and older \nTicket prices: 110-395 SEK\, discounts available for seniors\, children/youth/students \n\n\nPlease note that large bags\, backpacks\, suitcases\, and strollers are not allowed in the church! \n\n\n  \n\n\nBUY YOUR TICKETS HERE!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get there?\n\n\n\n\n\nStorkyrkan – Stockholm Cathedral is situated in Old Town just beside the Royal Castle. SUMMARY:Visionary Soundscapes | Svensk musikvår
DESCRIPTION:When Svensk Musikvår – the annual festival for contemporary art music – returns to Storkyrkan\, it does so with a concert where the Stockholm Saxophone Quartet meets the organ in three entirely new works. The compositions\, commissioned by the festival with support from the Swedish Arts Council and the Helge Ax:son Johnson Foundation\, explore themes of time\, the psyche\, and the depths of existence. \nZacharias Ehnvall’s Window of Tolerance unfolds like an audible wave across the mind – a resonant reflection on the passage of time and the expanses of perception. Paula af Malmborg Ward’s Timestuck is a musical dialogue between organ and saxophones\, a fascinating journey through the paradoxes of time and human consciousness. David Riebe’s Vertigo draws us into the sensation of dizziness and liminality – where sweet and chaotic sonic landscapes meet in the organ’s powerful resonance filling the church space. The saxophonists move freely around the room\, creating a sound that seems to emanate from everywhere and nowhere at once. \nThis concert\, in one of Stockholm’s most historic churches\, becomes a meeting place where contemporary Swedish music reveals its vibrant breadth and distinctive voice. Welcome to experience new sounds and profound expressions at Svensk Musikvår’s festival 2025. \nStockholms saxofonkvartett\nJörgen Pettersson\nLinn Persson Kornhammar\nMathias Karlsen Björnstad\nTheo Hillborg\nMila Ortgies Thoors organ \nfrom the programme\nZacharias Ehnvall Window of Tolerance\nPaula af Malmborg Ward Timestuck\nDavid Riebe Vertigo \nAge limit: 6 years and older \nFree admission \nPlease note that large bags\, backpacks\, suitcases\, and strollers are not allowed in the church! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get there?\n\n\n\nStorkyrkan – Stockholm Cathedral is situated in Old Town just beside the Royal Castle.
