SUMMARY:Stations of the cross
DESCRIPTION:At 3 p.m. on Good Friday – the hour of Jesus’ death – we gather for reflection on life’s deepest questions. For many years\, this occasion has offered a moment of stillness through a poetic and musical journey along the fourteen Stations of the Cross\, the Via Dolorosa. \nIn 1930\, composer and organist Marcel Dupré improvised upon Paul Claudel’s poetic work Le Chemin de la Croix (“The Way of the Cross”) – a series of thought-provoking and profoundly human texts about suffering and reconciliation. These improvisations were later transformed into fourteen musical meditations\, each reflecting the depth and drama of its respective station. \nThrough Stina Ekblad’s interpretation\, Claudel’s poetry is brought to life with immediacy and presence. Dupré’s organ music moves between tender stillness and powerful drama – an emotional journey from deep sorrow to the light of hope. In the meeting of word and sound arises a deeply moving dialogue that leads us along the Way of the Cross with spiritual depth and heartfelt immediacy. \n  \nMattias Wager organ\nStina Ekblad recitation \nProgramme\nMarcel Dupré Le Chemin de la Croix op. 29\nto poems by Paul Claudel \n  \nAge limit: 6 years and older \nFree admission \nPlease note that large bags\, backpacks\, suitcases\, and strollers are not allowed in the church! \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get there?\n\n\n\nStorkyrkan – Stockholm Cathedral is situated in Old Town just beside the Royal Castle. SUMMARY:MacMillan Seven Last Words of Christ
DESCRIPTION:The music of Seven Last Words from the Cross reflects Sir James MacMillan’s deep roots in Scottish cultural heritage and his strong Catholic faith. His musical language is characterised by rhythmic vitality\, emotional depth\, and influences from Celtic folk traditions interwoven with the Western classical idiom. By blending Gregorian melodies and baroque Passion elements\, he creates a unique sound world where sorrow and consolation intertwine in an intense musical narrative. \nIn this cantata for choir and string orchestra\, the seven last utterances of Jesus on the cross are set in a powerful musical meditation. Each movement alternates between dramatic energy and moments of quiet stillness\, evoking a profound sense of intimacy and reflection. MacMillan’s music combines spiritual depth with artistic innovation\, and his work is internationally recognised as among the most significant contributions to contemporary sacred music. \nSeven Last Words from the Cross is not only a musical masterpiece but also a living testament to MacMillan’s importance in the world of modern art music\, where tradition and the present moment meet in a passionate expression. \n  \nS:t Jacobs Vokalensemble\nOrkester\nMikael Wedar conductor \nProgramme\nJames MacMillan Seven Last Words of Christ \n  \nAge limit: 6 years and older \nTicket prices: 370-100 SEK\, discounts available for seniors\, children/youth/students \nPlease note that large bags\, backpacks\, suitcases\, and strollers are not allowed in the church! \nBUY YOUR TICKETS HERE!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get there?\n\n\n\nStorkyrkan – Stockholm Cathedral is situated in Old Town just beside the Royal Castle. SUMMARY:The Swedish Radio Choir interprets Palestrina
DESCRIPTION:Palestrina’s renowned mass is interwoven with Arvo Pärt’s frequently performed and much-loved motets. The concert marks the conclusion of six years of collaboration between Chief Conductor Kaspars Putniņš and the Swedish Radio Choir. \nGiovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s Missa Papae Marcelli (Mass for Pope Marcellus) is a Renaissance masterpiece composed around 1560. It honours the martyred bishop Marcellus I and is characterised by its clear\, balanced polyphony and refined interplay of voices. The work represents a masterful union of spiritual gravity and exquisite craftsmanship. Seen as one of the foremost examples of sacred Renaissance polyphony\, the Marcellus Mass has profoundly influenced later church music—a perfect opportunity to experience the pure\, sacred sound world of the late Italian Renaissance. \nArvo Pärt’s choral works for unaccompanied voices are defined by his signature style—a fusion of minimalism and spiritual clarity. Through simple\, luminous melodies and subtle harmonies\, he creates a meditative\, timeless atmosphere. His motets explore themes of faith\, redemption\, and human vulnerability with profound sincerity\, offering deeply spiritual expressions of reflection and quiet contemplation. \n\nRadiokören\nKaspars Putniņš dirigent \nProgram\nGiovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina Missa Papae Marcelli\nArvo Pärt Nunc dimittis\nArvo Pärt Magnificat\nArvo Pärt Dopo la vittoria\nArvo Pärt The woman with the alabaster box \n  \nAge limit: 6 years and older \nTicket prices: 80-275 SEK\, discounts available for seniors\, children/youth/students \nPlease note that large bags\, backpacks\, suitcases\, and strollers are not allowed in the church! \nTickets are sold at Berwaldhallen. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get there?\n\n\n\n \nStorkyrkan – Stockholm Cathedral is situated in Old Town just beside the Royal Castle.
