New Year’s Concert

31 December, 2025 @ 16:00 - 17:30
100SEK – 370SEK

Under Storkyrkan’s majestic arches, we gather to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new. Astrid Söderbergh Widding, former President of Stockholm University and soon-to-be executive board member of the Wallenberg Foundations, delivers a New Year’s address weaving together knowledge and vision—a story of civic engagement and the power of hope.

The concert opens with William Crotch’s festive Organ Concerto in A major, followed by Jonathan Dove’s The Passing of the Year—a tribute to the passage of time, where the choir’s voices blend melancholy and optimism. The final movement, Ring Out, Wild Bells, sets Tennyson’s famous poem to music, echoing the words recited at Skansen’s New Year’s celebrations for decades. Wilhelm Stenhammar’s Sweden provides a patriotic pause, a hymn to national identity and the bonds of community. The concert concludes with Joseph Haydn’s Missa in angustiis (“Nelson Mass”), composed during political turmoil but filled with triumph—trumpet fanfares and a jubilant “Dona nobis pacem” symbolize the certainty of hope.

In the space between music and words, the future takes shape—a reminder that every new year carries both what has been and what can be.
