Songs and Hymns of Christmas

Boxing Day is dedicated to Saint Stephen in much of the Christian world and is also known in Sweden as “Staffansmäss.” At Storkyrkan, we celebrate with a traditional concert, inviting both audience and performers to join in singing the beautiful songs and hymns of Christmas.
Saint Stephen is said to be the patron saint of coachmen, stable boys, stonemasons, tailors, and weavers—and, conveniently, can also be invoked for headaches! In earlier times, young people would celebrate Staffansmäss by dressing up and riding through the village, singing “Staffan” songs with much merriment.
