SUMMARY:Winterreise
DESCRIPTION:“I prefer these songs to any of my other ones\, and you will come to like them too.” So said Franz Schubert to his friends\, who had just heard him sing Winterreise for the first time\, accompanying himself at the piano. The speechless friends sensed that they had witnessed a kind of farewell – and Schubert would have less than a year left to live. The twenty-four strange\, sorrowful\, and multifaceted songs would later become a cornerstone of the song repertoire – though difficult to grasp for those who first heard them. The singer gives voice to a solitary traveller in a desolate winter landscape that mirrors his inner desolation – lonely\, forsaken\, and lost. The piano part comments on and supports the shifting states of mind and emotion. \nHarry Martinson\, in Vägen ut (1936)\, wrote something that could well summarise Winterreise: “Here and there lay a village\, but otherwise the road passed through forests of dark and ancient fir trees – no life\, only the melancholy sighing of the trees. He recalls the escape vine – the movable liana with which he might swing from tree to tree – if… if…” \nCarl Unander-Scharin tenor\nMattias Wager piano \nProgram\nFranz Schubert Winterreise \nAge limit: 6 years and older\nFree admission\nPlease note that large bags\, backpacks\, suitcases\, and strollers are not allowed in the church! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get there?\n\n\n\n\nStorkyrkan – Stockholm Cathedral is situated in Old Town just beside the Royal Castle. SUMMARY:Yes\, We Love This Country | Jubilate
DESCRIPTION:This year’s church music festival in the Diocese of Stockholm – Jubilate – highlights contemporary Norwegian sacred music by some of the country’s most significant composers. Inspired by the vastness of the sea\, Petra Bjørkhaug has written the heartfelt Messa di Pentecoste\, in which the *Sanctus* and *Agnus Dei* are performed with profound sincerity. Knut Nystedt\, a pioneer of Norwegian choral music\, is represented by the jubilant a cappella work Song of Praise and his beautiful arrangement of the folk tune Jesus\, din søte forening å smake. \nAdolf Fredrik’s Church Chamber Choir interprets Torbjørn Dyrud’s While we war against ourselves\, an intense work expressing human conflict through richly layered sonorities. Gustavsberg Vocal Ensemble performs Kim André Arnesen’s acclaimed Even when he is silent\, set to a World War II text about faith\, hope\, and love even in their apparent absence. S:t Matteus Chamber Choir concludes with Arnesen’s Infinity and Tord Kalvenes’s meditative Kyrie. \nJubilate in the Diocese of Stockholm offers an evening where contemporary Norwegian music brings both strength and hope. \nSt. Matthew Chamber Choir\nEspen Myklebust Olsen conductor\nAdolf Fredrik Church Chamber Choir\nChristoffer Holgersson conductor\nGustavsberg Vocal Ensemble\nHelena Engardt conductor\nMattias Wager piano and organ \nPetra Bjørkhaug Sanctus & Agnus Dei ur Messa di Pentecoste\nKnut Nystedt Song of Praise\narr Knut Nystedt Jesus\, din søte forening å smake\nTorbjørn Dyrud While we war against ourselves\nKim André Arnesen Do not neglect\, What is peace\, Even when he is silent & Inifinity\nTord Kalvenes Kyrie ur Missa de lumine \nAge limit: 6 years and older\nFree admission \n \nPlease note that large bags\, backpacks\, suitcases\, and strollers are not allowed in the church! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get there?\n\n\n\nStorkyrkan – Stockholm Cathedral is situated in Old Town just beside the Royal Castle. SUMMARY:Evensong | Jubilate
DESCRIPTION:A visit to an English cathedral or college chapel to experience Evensong is like stepping into another time and world. As evening calm descends\, the space fills with powerful choral singing that\, together with the sound of the organ\, carries the ancient liturgy through the magnificent acoustics. Beneath soaring vaults and grand windows\, an almost breathless stillness arises\, offering both worshippers and visitors a moment to reflect and rest in a sacred space\, enveloped by the power of music and the beauty of words. This moment of contemplation and togetherness\, free from the noise of daily life\, has contributed to Evensong’s renewed popularity in England. \nThis year’s Evensong is part of the Diocese of Stockholm’s church music festival Jubilate\, which this year focuses on Norwegian music – with several of the evening’s composers in attendance. \nThe service is sung by the Royal College of Music Chamber Choir. During the evening\, the annual Saint Cecilia Award will also be presented – an award that promotes church music in the Diocese of Stockholm. All of this makes the Evensong a solemn and memorable musical experience\, part of a tradition that both honours history and builds bridges to new listeners. \nRoyal College of Music Chamber Choir\nMats Nilsson conductor\nJohan Hammarström & Mattias Wager organ\nSabina Koij liturgist\nBishop Andreas Holmberg \n  \nur programmet\nPetra Bjørkhaug Da pacem\, Domine\nTorbjørn Dyrud Till ingång och växelsångsböner\nKim André Arnesen Bragernes Canticles\narr.
