W A Mozart: Requiem90SEK – 275SEK
Few musical pieces have given rise to as many legends and myths as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem. With little or no base in reality, some stories have caught the imagination of many, not least the one about Mozart’s envious rival Salieri and his supposed role in Mozart’s death, a story made popular by the Hollywood movie Amadeus. Facts are that Mozart was commissioned to compose the Requiem by excentric Count von Walsegg in the memory of his deceased spouse. An avid amateur musician, von Walsegg was known to have commissioned pieces from famous composers, only to present the music as composed by himself. Mozart died while still in the process of composing his Requiem, and it was later completed by his student Süssmayr. His is the version we will hear in this concert.
The concert start with a famous piece of music by the young Mozart, the soprano cantata Exsultate, jubilate, originally composed for a castrato singer. In this concert, the part is sung by one of our most distinguished opera stars, soprano Elin Rombo.
