Yes, We Love This Country | Jubilate

This year’s church music festival in the Diocese of Stockholm – Jubilate – highlights contemporary Norwegian sacred music by some of the country’s most significant composers. Inspired by the vastness of the sea, Petra Bjørkhaug has written the heartfelt Messa di Pentecoste, in which the *Sanctus* and *Agnus Dei* are performed with profound sincerity. Knut Nystedt, a pioneer of Norwegian choral music, is represented by the jubilant a cappella work Song of Praise and his beautiful arrangement of the folk tune Jesus, din søte forening å smake.
Adolf Fredrik’s Church Chamber Choir interprets Torbjørn Dyrud’s While we war against ourselves, an intense work expressing human conflict through richly layered sonorities. Gustavsberg Vocal Ensemble performs Kim André Arnesen’s acclaimed Even when he is silent, set to a World War II text about faith, hope, and love even in their apparent absence. S:t Matteus Chamber Choir concludes with Arnesen’s Infinity and Tord Kalvenes’s meditative Kyrie.
Jubilate in the Diocese of Stockholm offers an evening where contemporary Norwegian music brings both strength and hope.
