Bidean gaude!
27 October @ 16:00 - 17:00
180SEKBidean gaude means We are on our way! in Basque, and the concert is being held two days before Stockholm Cathedral Chamber Choir travels to the international choir competition in Tolosa/Basque Country. The competition, which has been held at the site every year since 1969, attracts the world’s very best choirs and aims, among other things, to highlight Basque music and culture. The participating choirs’ repertoire must meet various criteria regarding style and era. They must also perform several pieces by Basque composers – here Javier Busto, David Azurza, and Valentin Zubiaurre – which, of course, presents a linguistic challenge.
The Chamber Choir’s program also includes Slovenian choral music from different eras (the contemporary Damijan Močnik’s mirror-shaped Acclamatio and the Renaissance composer Iacobus Gallus Hodie nobis coelorum), Norwegian folk tunes arranged by Grete Pedersen – Ned i Vester – and the Norwegian Kim Andre Arnesen’s Even when he is silent, which is based on a text found in a concentration camp after World War II. Additionally, we will hear Swedish choral music, including Fredrik Sixten’s meditative Alleluia and the contemporary composers Staffan Storm and Anna-Karin Klockar’s reflections on Hugo Alfvén.
