Anton Bruckner Mass in E minor
16 November @ 16:00 - 17:10
100SEK – 290SEKThis year marks a significant anniversary not only for Anton Bruckner (100 years) but also for the Gustaf Sjökvist Chamber Choir. The choir was founded exactly 30 years ago by conductor and cathedral organist Gustaf Sjökvist and has since been a cornerstone of the Swedish choral scene. Florian Benfer has been the choir’s artistic director since 2018.
The Army Band is the largest orchestra in the Swedish Armed Forces, consisting of 53 full-time musicians. The band’s main mission is to provide music for state ceremonies.
In this program, the choir and the band will join forces to perform Anton Bruckner’s renowned Mass in E minor. Completed in 1866, this was the composer’s first acknowledged masterpiece. The E minor Mass combines simplicity and restraint with counterpoint, bold thematic development, and powerful contrasts, creating a moving whole.
Also on the program are motets by the celebrated composer, as well as, as a bridge to the present, choral works by the Slovenian composer Nana Forte, born in 1981 and multiple award-winner for her choral compositions.
