Boys’ Choir Day
11 May @ 16:00 - 17:00
Free
Boys’ Choir Day is an initiative by the Church of Sweden to highlight and encourage singing boys and young men, in memory of the boys’ choir’s own patron saint, St. Dominic Savio.
Dominic Savio was born in Italy in 1842, was deeply religious, and began his priestly studies at the age of twelve. However, just two years later, he died from tuberculosis. During his short life, he made a strong impression on people through his virtues – among other things, he founded a student group that mediated when students were in conflict with each other. Savio was canonized in 1954 by Pope Pius XII.
The Church of Sweden’s Boys’ Choir Association based the idea for Boys’ Choir Day on St. Dominic Savio’s life story when the event was first initiated on May 6, 2018. The day is held every year on this date or a nearby one.
