Cantos Sagrados
25 May @ 16:00 - 17:00
160SEK
A concert about faith, hope, and humanity.
Scottish composer James MacMillan is one of the UK’s most prominent composers, known for blending musical traditions with deep spirituality and social engagement. His Cantos Sagrados depicts the despair of mothers in dictatorship-era Argentina, where children were taken away by soldiers. From this raw drama, the music transitions into a painfully beautiful song to the Madonna of Guadalupe, filled with comfort and reverence. The work was written during the troubles in Northern Ireland as a powerful musical plea for peace and justice.
Lili Boulanger’s Psaume XXIV, with its bold harmonies and spiritual intensity, highlights the extraordinary talent that made her one of the most significant composers of her generation.
A highlight of the program is the world premiere of Judith Bingham’s A Prayer to the Holy Ghost, where she sets to music texts by Christina Rossetti and Pope Innocent III. The work, composed specifically for today’s concert, creates a meditative atmosphere with suggestive timbres and rhythms.
