Culture Night Stockholm

26 April @ 18:00 - 23:59

Free

Discover the magic of St. Nicholas Church’s medieval vaults during Culture Night in Stockholm. Here, the wings of history meet the power of music in a series of atmospheric concerts. Let the city’s cultural heart beat for you during this unforgettable evening!

According to composer Frank Martin himself, it was never intended for his mass to reach the ears of the public, as it was solely a matter between him and God. But what is so secretive about it? Was he ashamed of what he had composed? Was his faith in God stronger than he was willing to admit?

Martin Hellberg and the St. Jacob Chamber Choir explore what might have been behind Frank Martin’s caution by performing the mass and interpreting the composer’s musical portrayals of faith in God. Additionally, the concert connects to a contemporary composer, Sir James MacMillan, whose music shows a connection with Frank Martin’s mass.

Lars-Erik Larsson Gymnasium in Lund is a music school where students have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in music theory, choir singing, and ensemble performance. The school’s elite choirs, Larsson’s Hair Salon, Lars-Erik’s Men’s Choir, and LEL Vocals, offer a broad repertoire and many performance opportunities.

Culture Night concludes with a celebration of improvisation—music created in the moment—with Mattias Wager and Gary Graden offering night music.
