Marcel Dupré The Way of the Cross
18 April @ 15:00 - 16:30
Free
At 3 PM on Good Friday, the hour of Jesus’ death occurs. For many years, we have invited people to a moment of stillness before the great and existential questions of Good Friday, here in the form of a poetic and musical journey along the fourteen stations of the Cross, Via Dolorosa.
The composer and organist Marcel Dupré composed fourteen musical meditations on the stations of the Cross, music based on improvisations he had previously performed to the newly written poetic work Le Chemin de la Croix (The Way of the Cross) by the French poet Paul Claudel. The strong and universally recognizable images in the text, here interpreted by Stina Ekblad, receive their musical commentary in Dupré’s sometimes tender, sometimes dramatic organ setting.
