“My organ, it is an orchestra!” exclaimed César Franck about his beloved Cavaillé-Coll organ, an instrument with infinite possibilities. We contemporary organists can only agree! The organ is not only a mighty soloist, but also a versatile chamber music partner that is eager to engage in dialogue with other instruments. Its rich tonal palette, inspired by the orchestral expressions of the Romantic era, gives it a unique ability to unite solo voices and depict dynamic movements such as crescendo and diminuendo.

In the Orgel + series, the organ is explored as a collaborator in various chamber music contexts. Here, some of the country’s leading musicians come together to offer musical journeys through original works in which the organ plays a central role.
In this concert, we will hear Josef Rheinberger’s Suite for organ, violin, and cello, one of the most captivating works in this repertoire. A dense interplay between the organ, violin, and cello, where the violin presents bright, lyrical melodies, while the cello adds depth and warmth. Together with the organ’s tonal richness, they form an intimate yet expansive musical experience.

Rheinberger, a master of writing for the organ, allows the instrument’s expressive registers to meet the dynamic energy of the strings. Let yourself be enchanted by the timeless beauty of this collaboration and moved by the many colors of the Romantic musical language.
