The Songs and Hymns of Christmas
26 December @ 16:00 - 17:00
Boxing Day is dedicated to Saint Stephen in much of the Christian world and is colloquially known as “Staffan’s Day” in Sweden. We celebrate this occasion in Storkyrkan with a traditional concert where the audience and performers join together in singing the beautiful songs and hymns of Christmas.
Saint Stephen is said to be the patron saint of coachmen, stable lads, stonemasons, tailors, and weavers. Conveniently, he can also be invoked for relief from headaches! In the past, young people would celebrate Staffan’s Day by dressing up and riding around the village with much noise and merriment, singing songs dedicated to Saint Stephen.
