Where the Cornflower Built a Bridge
1 June @ 16:00 - 17:00
160SEK
“When I read Harry Martinson’s poem ‘Where the Cornflower Built a Bridge’, an image of a shimmering hot summer day appeared before me. I felt childhood vibes, the blue cornflower in the yellow fields of the harvest, the feeling of fullness, everything still. And in the middle of this heat, another passion, the one between the two lovers. These images then gave momentum to the musical progression; the stillness against an ever more intense state.” This is how Agneta Sköld describes her encounter with the poem she set to music, which also gave the concert its name.
On this first day of the first summer month, we still find ourselves in the dreamy expectation that is spring. Nature awakens, buds break open, and life returns after the cold and darkness. But transitions are rarely easy – hope, despair, light and darkness, dreams and disappointment – everything is intertwined in the inexpressible time we call our own.
The Swedish poet Oscar Levertin interpreted the same melancholy in his poem Spring Night. There, a dreamy and almost mystical atmosphere emerges. The night becomes nearly overwhelming in its richness and vitality.
At this concert, Thea Svensson also conducts, and in addition to singing soprano in the choir, she is studying in the Bachelor’s program in choral conducting at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. This will also be part of her examination in the program.
