The Mourning Mother
30 March @ 16:00 - 17:00
Free
Since 2022, a collaboration has been ongoing between the Stockholm Cathedral Parish and the Music and Opera School at Mälardalen University. We meet some of their singers in a program based on the hymn Stabat Mater, a 14th-century hymn depicting Mary’s suffering during the crucifixion of Jesus. The text has fascinated composers throughout the ages. Today’s concert lets us hear compositions on this theme by various composers, including Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, who composed perhaps the most famous work set to this poignant text.
