Brass Meets the Queen
28 October, 2023 @ 16:00 - 17:00
FreeThe queen of instruments – the organ – and the brass instruments come together in a multifaceted program. The repertoire includes,
among other pieces, the popular Gothic Suite by French composer Léon Boëllmann. Originally written for solo organ, the piece takes on an unexpected new coloration in this transcription for organ and brass instruments.
From the romantic French repertoire, we also have Eugène Gigout’s Grand Choeur Dialogué, whose title clearly indicates that the two groups of instruments play effectively in dialogue with each other.
Contemporary American repertoire is also on the program, such as the beautiful triptych Prelude, Elegy, and Scherzo by Carlyle Sharpe, professor of composition and music theory at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri.
A brass quintet, with several musicians from the Royal Guards Dragoon Music Corps, will accompany Johannes Skoog at the grand organ in St. Jacob’s Church in this display of musical fireworks.
From the programme:
Léon Boëllmann Gothic Suite
Eugène Gigout Grand Choeur Dialogue
Carlyle Sharpe Prelude, Elegy and Scherzo
