Storkyrkan Chamber Choir was founded in August 2023 under the direction of Helene Stureborg and consists of around 40 singers aged 18 to 25. In their first concert for the general public, they will perform Fauré’s Requiem along with related a cappella works from the contemporary choral repertoire.
When Gabriel Fauré composed his Requiem, he claimed to have done it “for pleasure.” He was working as a maître de chapelle at the Madeleine Church in Paris. An initial five-movement version of the Requiem was performed at the funeral of architect M. Joseph Le Soufaché in 1888. Fauré continued to work on the piece, which had its premiere with a smaller chamber orchestra in the same church in 1893. The Requiem is Fauré’s first and only large-scale composition based on sacred texts. His adaptation of the text is relatively free, including the incorporation of the Day of Judgment motif (Dies Irae) in the movement of liberation (Libera me).

Doors open 30 minutes before the concert starts. Late entry will not be permitted after the concert begins. Please be aware that restroom facilities are limited.
