In the Spirit of Spring

Lyssna till framtidens sångare och instrumentalister som utbildar sig vid
Listen to the next generation of singers and instrumentalists studying at the School of Music and Opera at Mälardalen University, housed in Västerås Castle. The students present chamber music and solo works from the Nordic countries, Europe, and North America. The programme includes both newly composed and well-known repertoire – a spring-inspired mix full of life and renewal.
Chamber music is a multifaceted genre, typically performed by small ensembles of two to ten musicians, though sometimes more. Its distinctive quality lies in the close collaboration between performers. Each instrument plays a vital role and contributes to the whole, requiring communication, sensitivity, and mutual respect. At the School of Music in Västerås, students are encouraged to explore this collaborative artistry while also developing their individual instrumental or vocal mastery – both essential for performing at a high professional level. The curriculum alternates between solo and chamber performance, offering varied perspectives on musical expression.
Since 2022, there has been a close collaboration between Stockholm Cathedral Parish and the School of Music and Opera at Mälardalen University. Since 2024, MOMDU has also offered master’s programmes in both chamber opera and chamber music.
