"Annandag jul" is dedicated to Saint Stephen in most of the Christian world, and colloquially, the day is also referred to as "Staffansmäss." It is celebrated in the Stockholm Cathedral with a traditional concert, featuring performances by St. Jacob's Chamber Choir, the Stockholm Cathedral Chamber Choir, Lisa Rydberg on violin, Mattias Wager on organ, and conductors Helene Stureborg and Gary Graden.
When the stargazers, who are also commonly referred to as kings or wise men, march into Storkyrkan (the Great Church) together with the donkey, the ox, and the lamb, Anglican church music takes center stage. The manger is filled with straw, and the little baby Jesus looks around in wonder. Carols and folk songs are mixed with the occasional hymn. Sing along!
