FreeAnne Sofie von Otter meets the Great Organ of Stockholm Cathedral
Under the title Organ +, we have the pleasure to welcome back Anne Sofie von Otter to Stockholm Cathedral. The Swedish mezzo-soprano is celebrated and renowned worldwide for her performances on the grand opera and concert stages, as well as for her extensive discography. An important part of her artistry has been to explore music in an intimate format: songs, lieder cycles, and chamber music. Today’s concert is a continuation of a series of music videos that the three musicians recorded during the pandemic year 2020.
Organ + is a recurring concert series, during which we delve into the extensive repertoire for the organ as a chamber music instrument. We invite the country’s foremost vocal and instrumental soloists, who have the opportunity to explore the original repertoire composed with the organ as a collaborator.
“My organ, it is an orchestra!” exclaimed the composer and organist César Franck enthusiastically about his organ, built by the great organ builder Cavaillé-Coll. The organ has a rich array of solo voices, and a romantically inspired organ can truly emulate the effect of an orchestra’s crescendo and diminuendo.
