Solitary Poems

Soprano saxophonist Anders Paulsson has been touring internationally for many years with his instrument. The pandemic lockdown put a stop temporary stop to that, but instead of settling down, Paulsson commissioned new works from a number of Swedish and foreign composers, asking them to write solo pieces for him and his instrument. Thirty composers responded, and the record label bis selected 23 of these for the CD “Solitary Poems” which will be released in the coming days.

Most of the composers had never written for soprano saxophone before, so in countless video meetings, they explored all possible expressions for the instrument. Several of them offered to compose solo concertos for Paulsson when they realized the potential of the soprano saxophone as a solo instrument.

Among the composers you will experience in today’s concert are Fredrik Högberg, Steve Dobrogosz, Victoria Borisova-Ollas, Andrea Tarrodi, Johan Hammerth, Anders Hillborg, Anna-Lena Laurin, Paula af Malmborg Ward, Bo Hansson, John Corigliano, Ann-Sofi Söderqvist, Svante Henryson, Anders Nilsson, Thomas Lindahl, Marie Samuelsson, Jörgen Dafgård, and Britta Byström.

Also performing as a soloist in the concert is soprano saxophonist Theo Hillborg.
