The culture night

During the Stockholm Culture Night, the doors of Storkyrkan open to a world of sound. Come and experience the city’s cathedral filled with music, light, and presence. Let the tones carry you through history – in the very heart of the Old Town.
S:t Jacob’s Chamber Choir will present two concerts during the evening under the direction of 25-year-old German guest conductor Maria Ravvina, winner of the international Fosco Corti Choral Conducting Competition in Turin in October 2024. S:t Jacob’s Chamber Choir took part in the competition as the final-round choir, and the first prize consisted of conducting a concert with the choir in Stockholm. Maria Ravvina was also awarded a special prize as the youngest finalist in the competition.
Maria Ravvina is currently pursuing a master’s degree in choral conducting at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. She is Artistic Director of the Hannover-based vocal ensemble Vox Aeterna, which won several prizes at the major German choral festival Deutsches Chorfest 2025, where around 14,000 singers from more than 400 choirs gathered. She also works with the Hannover Girls’ Choir, Capella St Crucis, the Sing-Akademie Zürich, and the RIAS Chamber Choir in Berlin.
The Culture Night concludes in the spirit of improvisation – with nocturnal music created in the moment by Mattias Wager and Gary Graden.
