The Mystery of Faith | The Choir of St John’s College, Cambridge

This evening, Storkyrkan will be filled with the sound of one of the world’s most celebrated choirs: The Choir of St John’s College, Cambridge. With roots in seventeenth-century England, the choir has, through the centuries, developed a sound that has captivated audiences and critics alike around the globe. Under the direction of Christopher Gray, boys and girls sing side by side with university students in an ensemble distinguished by warmth, precision, and deep commitment to both tradition and innovation. The choir is regularly heard in international broadcasts and on tours, and has recorded over ninety acclaimed albums.
The programme ranges from the majestic polyphony and compelling mysticism of Tallis and Gibbons to the resplendent sound of the British cathedral choral tradition, where voices of different generations meet. Britten’s vibrant Rejoice in the Lamb bursts with imagination and joy, Marsh moves between drama and contemplation, Daley creates a sense of intimate presence, and Holst evokes the English soundscape and poetic heritage. This concert offers music in which each work tells its own story, inviting the audience to experience spaciousness, consolation, and the human voice in its most beautiful expression.
