The Way of the Cross

At 3 o’clock on Good Friday, churches around the world observe the memory of Jesus’ hour of death . True to our tradition, we invite you to a moment of contemplation around the existential questions of Good Friday, here in the form of a poetic and musical journey along the fourteen Stations of the Cross, Via Dolorosa.
At a concert in Brussels in 1930, French organist Marcel Dupré improvised on the newly written poems “Le Chemin de la Croix” (The Way of the Cross) by French poet and playwright Paul Claudel. Eventually, Dupré composed a finished work based on the original improvisations. The powerful and humanly recognizable images of the texts, here interpreted by Stina Ekblad, receive their musical commentary in Dupré’s at times tender, at times dramatic organ music.
