The Swedish Radio Choir interprets Palestrina

Palestrina’s renowned mass is interwoven with Arvo Pärt’s frequently performed and much-loved motets. The concert marks the conclusion of six years of collaboration between Chief Conductor Kaspars Putniņš and the Swedish Radio Choir.
Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s Missa Papae Marcelli (Mass for Pope Marcellus) is a Renaissance masterpiece composed around 1560. It honours the martyred bishop Marcellus I and is characterised by its clear, balanced polyphony and refined interplay of voices. The work represents a masterful union of spiritual gravity and exquisite craftsmanship. Seen as one of the foremost examples of sacred Renaissance polyphony, the Marcellus Mass has profoundly influenced later church music—a perfect opportunity to experience the pure, sacred sound world of the late Italian Renaissance.
Arvo Pärt’s choral works for unaccompanied voices are defined by his signature style—a fusion of minimalism and spiritual clarity. Through simple, luminous melodies and subtle harmonies, he creates a meditative, timeless atmosphere. His motets explore themes of faith, redemption, and human vulnerability with profound sincerity, offering deeply spiritual expressions of reflection and quiet contemplation.
