Seven Last Words from the Cross is not only a musical masterpiece, but also a living manifestation of James MacMillan’s significance for contemporary art music. In this cantata for choir and string orchestra, the seven last words of Jesus on the cross are conveyed in an expressive musical meditation. St. Jacob’s Vocal Ensemble and orchestra perform the work under the direction of Mikael Wedar.

The poetic texts of Paul Claudel come to life through Stina Ekblad’s interpretation, and Marcel Dupré’s organ music moves between tender tranquility and powerful drama.
Stockholms domkyrkokör, together with soloists Henriikka Gröndahl, Maria Forsström, Joel Annmo and Markus Schwartz, presents a journey through sorrow, hope and spiritual consolation.
The programme includes Netzel’s expressive Stabat Mater, Poulenc’s wintry and contemplative Un soir de Neige, and the heartfelt Litanies à la Vierge Noire.
Roger-Ducasse’s delicate Crux fidelis brings the evening to a close.

The Apology – Sii bivde ándagassii is Giron Sámi Teáhter’s stage production created in response to the high mass at which the then Archbishop Antje Jackelén apologized for the Church of Sweden’s involvement in the colonization of the Sámi people.
The title of the concert alludes to the recurring theme in several of the pieces: the human being who, through prayer, worship, or contemplation, receives something from God. Music by Jan Sandström, Sven-David Sandström, Henry Purcell, Nana Forte, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, among others.
