The poetic texts of Paul Claudel come to life through Stina Ekblad’s interpretation, and Marcel Dupré’s organ music moves between tender tranquility and powerful drama.

Seven Last Words from the Cross is not only a musical masterpiece, but also a living manifestation of James MacMillan’s significance for contemporary art music. In this cantata for choir and string orchestra, the seven last words of Jesus on the cross are conveyed in an expressive musical meditation. St. Jacob’s Vocal Ensemble and orchestra perform the work under the direction of Mikael Wedar.

Palestrina’s renowned mass is interwoven with Arvo Pärt’s frequently performed and much-loved motets. The concert marks the conclusion of six years of collaboration between Chief Conductor Kaspars Putniņš and the Swedish Radio Choir.

Lars-Erik Larsson’s A God Disguised is a beloved Swedish classic, a favorite work for many Swedes. The text by Hjalmar Gullberg, written during the troubled times of the 1930s, captures hope, compassion, and human dignity. Gullberg drew inspiration for his poem from the myth of the god Apollo, who wanders among humans in disguise — an allegory of the divine being present without being seen. Stina Ekblad serves as narrator when the piece is performed by the Storkyrkan Chamber Choir and the Stockholm Cathedral Choir, with Miah Persson and Karl Söderström as soloists

Welcome to a magical summer evening in Storkyrkan, where the power of music unites the heavenly and the earthly. Under the direction of Gary Graden, S:t Jacob’s Chamber Choir presents a concert filled with light, resonance, and heartfelt expression.

Storkyrkan is visited by choirs from Denmark and Norway, who together with S:t Jacob’s Vocal Ensemble present a program in which older music is given new life through modern interpretations.
